Guest post: Best menswear buys from Mr DRG

Living with a fellow of rather refined tastes means I get a lot of ‘why don’t you blog about this?’ emails. So I decided to ask D do write a guest post. After much scrolling through Mr Porter et al, he has picked his favourite menswear buys below, along with a line or two of commentary. Enjoy!

EASTMAN LEATHER JACKET
“As far as replica A2 flying jackets go it’s got to be Aero Leather, Eastman Clothing or the Real McCoy’s (which at US$2,500 brings the Japanese jacket in at over three times the price of its UK counterparts). Quality on all is excellent, detail is spot on, and Eastman’s ‘timeworn’ option (very different to ‘distressed’) will save you the three or four years it will take to break in the horsehide version.”

OLIVER PEOPLES SUNGLASSES
“A very decent alternative to the ubiquitous aviators and Wayfarers, these smart acetate shades have clean styling and are free of cheapening logos.”

BURBERRY KNITTED TIE
“I’m a sucker for a knitted tie and have been buying them for over 20 years. Of all the brands that have started producing them recently, Hermés and Burberry are the best buys in my book.”

BUZZ RICKSON CHINOS
“These will replace my worn-to-fraying Levi’s LVC 1920s chinos from a few years back. Buzz Rickson’s quality is just fantastic and they don’t do ‘distressed’, which is a very good thing as far as I’m concerned. Legs are straight, so you’ll need to get them tailored (as the forces personnel would have done), which is always going to be the best way to wear them.”

PAUL SMITH SCARF
“A chap can’t have too many scarves, or at least that’s what I frequently find myself trying to persuade DRG, who tells me that I now have that area comprehensively covered. Either way, I see this one coming my way in the not too distant…”

ALDEN SHOES
“A sturdy pair of shoes from Alden of New England, these will work a treat with wide legged military chinos (see above), and being Alden, the workmanship isn’t in question. They wear Commando soles as well, so slippery wet London streets and Tube steps won’t be a concern.”

CHARVET SILK POCKET SQUARE
“A natty silk navy pocket square from France’s venerable Charvet, which gives a little nod to the 50s. Just the ticket!”

LOCK & CO HARRIS TWEED CAP
“A snappy Harris Tweed cap from London’s finest hatter, St James’ Lock & Co, will see you through the springtime weather and last forever.”
