Beauty bits: Chanel’s spring shades, Meadham Kirchhoff’s fragrance and a Kevyn Aucoin exhibition

Oh man, I am so done with winter already! Luckily, every day of pure white cloud overhead brings another postie delivery of spring beauty goodness…

TORY BURCH BEAUTY IS HERE
Tory-Burch-LiptickTory-Burch-Blusher-bronzer
Tory Burch Beauty has now arrived (at Harrods and Toryburch.co.uk) and it’s a nicely considered offer. Packaging-wise, the gold-on-orange fretwork is gorgeous, although you’ll be slightly disappointed if expecting something weighty as it’s not metal. On the upside, that makes it lighter and easily portable. The products themselves are similar to Aerin in terms of wearability. These are hardworking feminine neutrals that include a pinky nude lipstick, a bronzer-and-blush palette, and my standout item, the lip & cheek tint. This is my dream blusher – a sheer, coral cream blush with a flattering sheen. It’s impossible to overdo this as it’s just sheer enough to be subtle, while imparting a definite youthful flush. There’s also a Tory Burch fragrance (a citrusy floral) which comes in a candle and bath and body products as well as a solid perfume in a medallion pendant – surely the ultimate Tory fan-girl buy.

TOM FORD’S SWEET SPRING PINKS

I always think of Tom Ford Beauty as slightly aggressive but these spring lip colours are soft, sweet and almost romantic. Here are the Lip Sheers and nail shades in sorbet pinks and peaches and I’m happy to see the return of the original ivory packaging. How good does Brit model Betty Adewole look in the campaign (below)? The spring colours have already landed at Selfridges, buy them here

MEET BURBERRY’S ENGLISH ROSE

Burberry’s new beauty campaign is similarly saccharine, starring Jourdan Dunn (below) in Burberry’s now-standard hazy-edged photography. I absolutely love how flawless her skin is here, offset with those lilacy-pink lids and lips. This ‘English Rose’ collection is directly inspired by the Burberry Prorsum catwalk collection (remember those candy-coloured lace confections?) and can be bought from the Burberry site here

MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF X PENHALIGON’S
Meadham-Kirchhoff-Penhaligons

There’s no doubt that catwalk fashion is directly influencing beauty and it’s now standard for young designers to dabble with established beauty brands to test out future possibilities. After several seasons spritzing various Penhaligon’s fragrances along its catwalks, Meadham Kirchhoff has finally created a house scent. 21st April sees the release of Tralala, an ‘opulent, hedonistic blend’ that reflects the uncompromising duo. The 100ml eau de parfum (£150) will come in a dolly-topped bottle adorned with a giant velvet bow as befits the designers’ elegantly macabre aesthetic.

CHANEL’S COLLECTION NOTES DE PRINTEMPS IS A MEDLEY OF REDS AND PINKS

Chanel-MelodieuseChanel-La-Diva

Chanel’s spring make-up centres around a ‘spring red’, for lips nails and cheeks. I’d say these are more pinks than reds but let’s not quibble. There’s everything from the gentlest ballet slipper nude to sweet corals and stronger raspberry reds. I’m not very adventurous with make-up colours (you’ll never see me in a goth lip) so these are right up my street. I immediately fell for the Glossimer For Lips in Sonate, a perfect spring raspberry pink gloss that’s not too sheer but definitely not opaque. For something stronger, there’s a very pretty Rouge Allure lipstick in Melodieuse (above left) at the coral-cerise end of the spectrum which Chanel describes as a ‘candy red’. This is a shade I would wear blotted to a stain for an amped-up daytime look. I love the idea of Rouge Allure Velvet in La Diva, (above right) the most intense electric pink, but in all honesty I know it would be too high maintenance. But it’s definitely one to try if you love a statement lip and want a change from scarlet. My other favourite is the Illusion D’Ombre eye shadow pot in Diapason. If you haven’t tried these pots, you must. They’re glass pots with a dome of long-wear gel shadow and come with their own brush. There’s quite a bit of shimmer but I’m always hunting for a not-too-dark aubergine and the twinkling finish makes this ideal for a wearable smoky eye.

JO MALONE’S ULTIMATE FLORAL BOUQUET

Here’s one of the nicest Valentine’s beauty ideas I’ve seen. Harrods is offering a 100ml bottle of Jo Malone London’s best selling Red Roses cologne on a bed of red blooms for £120. Pre-order from 8-14th February by calling 0870 950 5096.

KEVYN AUCOIN: THE EXHIBITION
Kevyn-Aucoin-exhibition-The-Make-Up-Show 3

Im not sure who will get to see this but it looks fantastic anyway. The Makeup Show in L.A. is partnering with Kevyn Aucoin Beauty on an exhibition called Beauty & Soul celebrating the life and work of Kevyn Aucoin. The exhibition, which runs from 1st-2nd March as part of The Makeup Show, will include images, books, products and personal items to give an insight into Aucoin’s dedication and influence in beauty. Isn’t it funny how few exhibition there have been dedicated to beauty, considering the impact it has on fashion and culture, especially in recent years? Here’s a glimpse of what to expect…
