THE DRG STYLE INDEX: Céline, Pallas, Commodity, Balenciaga, Troy London

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands and industry stories currently buzzing on my radar…

1. CÉLINE SELLS ONLINE AT 24 SÈVRES
Céline Big Bag available at 24 Sèvres

This week saw LVMH-owned Céline arrive at 24 Sèvres, the only multi-brand e-com store to sell Céline. 24 Sèvres (also owned by LVMH) will sell everything from RTW, to eyewear, and bags, shipping to over 80 countries. In addition, there’s an exclusive mini collection of products reworked in new colourways only available at 24 Sèvres – I love this downsized Céline “Big Bag” in burgundy grained leather.

2. CTJ X PALLAS

Pallas X Claire Thomson-Jonville

Thanks Keep It Chic for the heads up on this Pallas collab. The Parisian tailoring brand has hooked up with Self Service editor Claire Thomson-Jonville on a capsule collection that distills the essence of Thomson-Jonville’s style.

3. FEELGOOD FASHION: BALENCIAGA CHARITY MERCH

Balenciaga X World Food Programme

A new spin on fashion merch: Balenciaga showed its collab with the World Food Programme on its AW18 runway earlier this month. Hoodies, knits, caps and bum bags with the WFP logo were styled with tailored skirts and heels and will be available to buy from August, with 10 percent of the sale price of each WFP-branded product sold going to the charity. Balenciaga has also donated $250K to support WFP’s work of helping people in hunger-stricken parts of the world.

4. NAME TO KNOW: COMMODITY

Commodity fragrance

Expect to read a lot about Commodity, the fragrance and lifestyle brand in the next few months. This unisex indie brand is hitting all the right notes with people who love fragrance but don’t love traditional celeb-based beauty and fragrance marketing. Its branding is suitably minimalist and its perfumes are made using sustainably-sourced ingredients. Find it at the new Space NK in Westfield Stratford and online here.

5. TROY X ALEX EAGLE

Alex Eagle X Troy parka

Damn, it’s parka weather again! My 7-year-old Woolrich is looking a bit tired so I’m on the look out for a replacement. British brand Troy London has added to Alex Eagle’s line-up of keepable classics with an exclusive town-to-country parka. The limited edition, UK-made ‘Eagle’ parka has a concealed drawstring waist to give it more of a shape, a fishtail back, a bright orange lining and real or faux fur hood. Buy it here.

In other news…

I’ve been fantasy shopping on the Phillips site. Love this lot of Peter Beard’s Marilyn Monroe collage surrounded by his intricate drawings….

The New York Times has a great profile on an Indian couple in New York and their respective embroidery and hospitality businesses. Naina Shah creates the hand-embellishment for Gucci and McQueen, and Abhishek Honawar is a restauranteur and hotelier. See it here.

Into the Gloss has a Top Shelf with the gorgeous shoe designer Mari Giudicelli. (If you’re wondering, her PJs are from Cristaseya)

Another excellent podcast from Business of Fashion. Nick Knight talks about the weaknesses of print magazines and what fashion film should be about. Listen here.
