A weekend in Stockholm
When in Sweden, one should buy Acne, or that’s the mantra I like to live by. So that’s exactly what I did on my mini-break to Stockholm last month. As guests of Visit Sweden, D (Mr DRG) and I stayed at the one-year-old Hotel Scandic Grand Central availing ourselves of its rather unique Blogger’s Inn room. Continue reading
The Pet Shop Boys wear J.W.Anderson

Good spot on Twitter by Richard Gray from Sunday Times Style of Chris Lowe wearing J.W.Anderson’s quilted hat on the cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ single, Leaving. I’ve always maintained that the Pet Shop Boys have immense style, from their videos, to their record sleeves to their outfits. Here’s the hat in action on the AW12 catwalk… Continue reading
Buy it now: One for the boys
Like me, Mr DRG likes nothing more than a bit of fantasy online shopping – oh the hours he spends on Mr Porter! So I asked him to make himself useful and compile a men’s edit for me here. I think he’s done a damn good job…
TOP ROW
Leather and stainless steel hip flask, Dunhill
Just the the thing for a gent in need of a little tie-straightener on the long winter nights
Plaid bomber jacket, PS by Paul Smith
Smithy comes up with a great wool bomber that gives a nod to Brando in On The Waterfront – and crucially, there’s no superfluous branding to mess it up
Muirfield 8 piece cap, Lock & Co.
Every autumn I buy a new cap and this year I plumped for a dark grey one of these from Lock & Co, the oldest shop in the UK. What else could you want in a cap?
SECOND ROW
Grey hurling sweater, Inis Meain
An excellent jumper from the Aran Islands that’ll last for years and go with pretty much anything – it’s only a matter of time before one of these arrives for me at DRG Towers
Ilkley black Scotch Grain brogue, Tricker’s
Unlike Crockett & Jones, Tricker’s always take several weeks to break in, but once done are comfortable as anything. No other company nails the proportions and shaping of a country brogue quite as well as Tricker’s do, and like any good quality Northampton shoe, you’ll be returning these to the factory many times for resoling
Coyote-trimmed down-filled Arctic parka, Woolrich
As a lad I was rather taken by the parkas worn by Rock Hudson and Patrick McGoohan in Ice Station Zebra, and this is a fine contemporary take on things. Perfect for a December evening, as DRG herself will attest, having bought a black one last year
On Karlheinz clipdanglers and everyday carry
Love a Karlheinz Weinberger clipdangler. That is, a leather clip to dangle from your belt to hang your keys from (in the style of the Karlheinz kids). Not sure that ‘clipdangler’ is an actual word but if it’s not, it should be. I found these ‘clipdanglers’ on the Vintage Showroom blog. They’re selling them at their Earlham Street shop…
And while Googling ‘clipdangler’, I came across the Everyday Carry Tumblr, full of photos of the essential stuff men carry daily in their pockets/man bags plus commentary to go with. Continue reading
Trend report: AIPR AW12 press day highlights – A.P.C, Louis W, Sunspel
Some goodies from the AIPR AW12 press day back in March. My favourite discovery? Louis W, a capsule collection for A.P.C by in-house designer Louis Wong, consisting of perfect renditions of the bomber and biker jacket (alas, they’re in men’s sizes – typical). Due in October… Continue reading
Paris men’s fashion week photo diary
What could be more thrilling than bumping into both Catherine Baba and Ines de la Fressange (alas, not together) on the streets of Paris? Baba flitted into the Louboutin soiree for all of five seconds, while we witnessed Ines de la Fressange being papped in Place Vendome on her way to the Schiaparelli salon launch (nice Miu Miu trousers Ines)

New menswear discovery: Laurence Airline

I came across Laurence Airline at the MAN trade show in Paris (not to be confused with the MAN shows in London). Designer Laurence Chauvin Buthaud’s African textile pieces, made by locals from the Ivory Coast, caught my eye for their vibrancy and unisex appeal. The spring-summer 2013 collection will be sold at UK store, Agnes & Lola… Continue reading
Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS13: Paul Smith
My main takeaway from Paul Smith ss13? The world needs more pink suits. (And red, and yellow, and peach.) I love these proportions – short ‘DB8′ jacket (i.e. double-breasted, eight buttons), slim, above-the-ankle trousers, plus note the slightly higher heel too, to ‘create an upright posture’ apparently… Continue reading
Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS13: Kenzo

Possibly my favourite Paris show, following a brief display of parkour gymnastics (above), Kenzo heralded a return to its Jungle Jap roots, showing a sporty but tailored collection mixing influences of the urban jungles of Paris and New York with those of Asian jungles. The layers of camo and abstract animal prints are what made this collection sing for me, as well as the huge variety of accessories. Designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have brought their retailers’ eye to Kenzo so have got the balance of creativity and commerce spot on. Continue reading
Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS13: Berluti
My first men’s Paris Fashion Week was a wheeze of shows, presentations, exhibitions, parties and a tiny bit of shopping. Plus lots of people-watching outside cafes, drinking coffee and wafting pretend cigarettes. One of the most impressive presentations was the Berluti event in the lush Jardin du Palais Royal, I mean just look at the photos… Continue reading
