Bobbi Brown’s legacy and skincare heroes

Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint

News broke yesterday that Bobbi Brown is leaving the brand she founded in 1991 by the end of the year. Wait, Whaaaat?!

Bobbi is queen of the natural ‘you but better’ look that we all love – groomed, dewy-skinned, bronze-cheeked, just-glossy-enough caramel-lipped, a look that defined the nineties and early 2000s. Her foundation stick was (and still is) the secret weapon of many (in a wider shade range than most), ditto her shimmer brick and much coveted smoky eye palettes. And let’s not forget her bestselling how-to books, championing diverse, accessible beauty in adults and teens alike.

Recently, I’ve re-engaged with her skincare, which has upped its game lately. I’ve got quite a few new Bobbi Brown skincare heroes in circulation at the moment and there’s a big news update on one of them…

First, two excellent products from the Bobbi Brown ‘Extra’ line. I tried Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Nourishing Milk (£54) for the first time last week during a BB makeup lesson. An oil-milk, it contains almond and jojoba extracts to moisturise and balance the skin, with a lighter texture than regular facial oils. I’m a huge fan of facial oils, but the lighter consistency of this one especially agrees with me.

The Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm (£42.50) is one of the new steps I’ve added to my routine this year. I never used to use primers or illuminators but this comes after moisturiser as an additional layer of hydration to give my makeup that all-elusive ‘glow’ (courtesy of its reflective pearls and energising Lychee Extract), much needed at this time of year. I love the mess-free pump dispenser, the texture and the instant results.

The big news update comes from the Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint (£25). Originally available in one lip-coloured shade (Bare Pink) as a limited edition, this tinted balm stick is now permanent and next year will be joined by two new shades, Bare Popsicle and Bare Melon. Yes!!!

Finally, in other Bobbi news, we in the UK will be getting the Bobbi Brown Remedies (£29.50) in early January – the apothecary-style skin solutions that target different skin complaints. These are intensive treatments that also come in mini kits and have promising names like Skin Clarifier no 75, Skin Fortifier no 93 and Skin Reviver no 91 (I’d like all three please). If you go onto the UK site, you can ask to be notified when these come in stock. [UPDATE: They’re in stock now.]

Bobbi may be moving on but hopefully she’s leaving us in capable hands.
