Must see: Almodovar’s Julieta

Pedro Almodovar Julieta

Watching Julieta reminded me what an unbelievable storyteller Pedro Almodovar is. His films have the best roles for women of all ages, and this is no exception. The story of a middle-aged woman reliving her past to understand why her daughter disappeared from her life, it has humour, pathos, intrigue and some ravishing costumes courtesy of Dior.

I can’t lie though, my favourite moments were with the inimitable Rossy de Palma as you’ve never seen her before. As a dour-faced, curly-wigged frump, but owing it all the way! Do honour this with a proper cinema visit, it deserves the full popcorn-and-soda treatment.
