Buy it now: my go-to winter skin boosters

Peter-Lindbergh

Ugh, now the clocks have gone back, I’m bracing myself for the winter blues. Apart from depressing mornings and a mega craving for sugar and junk food, winter brings out the worst in my skin.  Here are three products I swear by for their skin-boosting and mood-enhancing properties:

Farfetch: the India edit

Farfetch continues its discovery and celebration of independent retail with the winner of its global Superstore contest. Le Mill in Mumbai is this year’s victor, winning the opportunity to sell a selection of its product on the site. Launched in 2011, by Cecilia Morelli Parikh, Julie Leymarie and Aurélie de Cort, Le Mill is a vast concept store in Wadi Bunder, housing international and Indian designers (Isabel Marant, Peter Pilotto, Savio Jon and Sabayaschi among them) alongside furniture, books, interiors and even flowers. Frankly, this looks like my kind of shop.

Le Mill is the first Indian store to be added to Farfetch’s global online marketplace, a coup that will bring awareness to the store from shoppers worldwide. My  favourite pieces include Isabel Marant’s patent flats, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s sequin-scattered sweatshirt and Andraab’s raw-edged cashmere scarf

Oliver Spencer’s boyswear for girls

Oliver-Spencer-womenswear-aw13 5

What’s the verdict on Oliver Spencer’s new wowmenswear AW13 collection? I’m getting vaguely APC-ish vibes which is no bad thing. The tailored jeans are a nice change from the oceans of skinnies out there and the chunky knits have their own boyish charm. The styling and casting of these press pictures is very appealing too, ageless and gamine – how cute is that fringed bob? Continue reading

Adidas-Stan-Smith

As any sneakerhead knows, it’s not about the fashionable and easily available, it’s about the hunt for that coveted rarity. Hence, while many are stocking up on New Balances in every hue and building their bespoke NIKEiDs, others hanker for the purest of old school icons – the Adidas Stan Smith. Continue reading

Vlisco-fabric

“Every Ghanaian woman of my mother’s generation collected hundreds of these fabrics. My mother literally had a room packed with these cloths. When I was 16, I decided I wanted to experiment and made an outfit from them. She came back, saw that I had cut into the cloth, and she lost her mind.”

Chanel’s trade secrets and new releases

If you’re a fan of Chanel’s Vitalumiere foundations, last week saw some new updates. First, its Vitalumiere Fluid (top left), a very pleasant satin-finish liquid foundation, is now available in Beige 70 and Beige 80. I really like this foundation, it gives just enough coverage for my verging-on-dry skin and it’s good to see the range of shades expanding.

Next, just in time for the winter blahs is the new Chanel Vitalumiere Compact Douceur (top right), a light yet creamy powder base that adds luminosity to greige-looking skin. Continue reading

I styled these pictures a few weeks ago for Boys By Girls with photographer Emma Miranda Moore and model Laurence Ainscough at Premier. We wanted to capture the feel of a visitor staying in an unfamiliar house and feeling slightly displaced. And maybe watched…! Laurence was brilliant fun and regaled us with his adventures as a student in Paris. I’ll be putting his interview up soon…

M&S techno tights and other innovations

Marks-and-Spencer-Hi-Heel-Tights

While there has been a lot of buzz around the M&S ad campaign and its infamous pink coat, there are other less shouty things going on in the store. Fabric innovation has always been a core M&S property and its lingerie department has been busy incorporating a whole bunch of solutions-based tech and design into its offer.

Such as its Hi Heel tights. No, not tights that have heels – that would be preposterous – but hosiery to wear with high heels. These tights (that come in a variety across sheers and opaques, £6-£15) have an integrated foam cushion to cup the ball of the foot, promising pain relief to fashionistas running around in 5-inch Loubs all day.
