SS13 trend report: perfume bottle bags
One for the ‘too cute’ file, the whimsical perfume bottle-shaped minaudieres by both Lanvin (above) and Charlotte Olympia for SS13. In keeping with their respective brands, Lanvin’s is grown-up and dramatic, echoing the lines of the classic Arpege fragrance bottle, while Charlotte Olympia’s pastel perspex offerings are imbued with her signature lighthearted wit. H&M magazine: the rise of the stylist
One of the things I love about watching the shows is sussing out the styling. The bigger brands use the best stylists in the biz to tell the ‘story’ of the collection and show how the clothes can be worn, something you’re just never going to get from seeeing pieces hung on a rail. Those Prada tabi socks, the Dries Van Noten layers, the white sunglasses at Rochas, they’re all trends waiting to be translated to the street that will help the designers sell even more of their wares and chances are, those ideas come from the stylist. Marc Jacobs’ Bookmarc comes to London
This year I feel like I’ve bought more coffee table books than clothes. Books feel like a justafiable luxury as they’re educational as well as beautiful objects. For example this work of art:
Good news for bibliophiles like me then, that Marc Jacobs is opening *has opened a London outpost of his Bookmarc store in the basement of Marc by Marc Jacobs in South Audley Street. This store has always sold a great selection of art, fashion and photography books but Bookmarc will sell even more in its own designated area. As Marc Jacobs’ Robert Duffy says, “I find that people are buying [books] and they’re not questioning why they’re buying it. When you want a book, you want a book, and there’s a certain satisfaction you get. You can’t wait to get home to look at it.” Too true. Even better news; there’s a Paris branch to follow…
*UPDATE: According to Vogue, the store is already up and running

LFW: Disneyrollergirl X The Shopbop Apartment

More LFW extra-curricular activity came in the guise of the Shopbop Apartment in one of three spanking new-build apartment blocks next to the Tate Modern. In case you missed it, etailer Shopbop.com just unveiled its slick new site (with this v jolly video featuring cameos from New York’s funnest fashion luvvies) which now has bigger images, a redesigned mobile site, better sharing options and lots more editorial. London Fashion Week: Brazil Rising at The Shop At Bluebird
Alongside the official London Fashion Week show schedule, there were all manner of extra curricular activities going on. My week kicked off with a breakfast at The Shop At Bluebird to launch Brazil Rising, a pop-up shop curated by Alice Ferraz. Alice is the owner of F*hits, Brazil’s super-blogger platform, but she’s something of a dynamo herself. Continue reading
Guest post: Social-commerce at NYFW and LFW ensures Fashion Week is a democracy for everyone to enjoy
Guest post by occasional DRG contributor, Alison Bishop
First we had Google+ Hangouts partnering with online curation site Lyst for New York Fashion Week, then we saw snippets of Diane von Furstenberg’s show process, firsthand, through her Google Glass video. On Saturday we saw House of Holland live streamed on eBay’s Style Collective blog, boosted by celebrity and consumer commentary (plus the chance to shop an edit of House of Holland AW12 on eBay.com). London Fashion Week: Philip Treacy’s Michael Jackson extravaganza *VIDEO*
Fashion people are hard to impress and fashion people going to a Philip Treacy show are harder still. Why? Because we have seen the ultimate in Treacy show fabulosity before and think it can’t be beaten. But yes it can and it just was. Continue reading
Oh! How shall I wear my coat?
The start of London Fashion Week is my cue to think about coats. It’s historically when the weather turns from mild to treacherous, and of course, when the fashion set gets layered up for their street style close-up. The question is not which coat to wear, but how to wear it. I predict we’ll be seeing one of the big three: Continue reading
Buy it now: J.W. Anderson for Topshop
As you may have noticed, I’m quite fascinated by the growing commercialisation of Fashion Week. More than anyone, Topshop has been instrumental in making Fashion Week accessible to all, via its sponsorships and collabs with LFW designers, it’s unsurpassed social media LFW coverage, its just announced Facebook hook-up and most recently, its pop-up shops at the LFW sites. Continue reading
