On Opening Ceremony’s London pop-up and Covent Garden’s new fashionable status

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Shopping in Covent Garden this weekend? Of course you are! (And if not why not?) The one-time tacky tourist trap is becoming something of a fashion and foodie mecca with Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Meat Market and Laduree all setting up shop in the last year or so. This winter also sees the arrival of Keith McNally’s Balthazar rezzo but that’s a post for another day. Continue reading

VIDEO: Social media is the new press release by DKNY

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

This is so brilliantly executed. DKNY made a video to piggy-back on the Olympics and promote its new flagship at 27 Old Bond Street. Ever the digital pioneer, it has also created DKNYfx, which according to WWD is an augmented reality smartphone app designed to stand as the brand’s digital platform. If you’re out and about in London today or next Saturday, also look out for DKNY’s model street teams who will be distributing non-digital postcards to be swapped in-store for a free tote…

Joanna Sykes joins Nicole Farhi as creative director

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

I’ve just been reading all the AW12 catwalk round-ups in Elle, Grazia and Vogue. Futuristic silhouettes, seductive goth and baroque over-embellishment feature heavily but they don’t excite me on a personal level. I’m more likely to get fired up over a macho coat or the perfect cigarette trouser so today’s breaking news about Joanna Sykes’ appointment at Nicole Farhi is a biggie for me. Continue reading

BrandAlley launches Pin To Win Facebook app

What with all the Pinning, Tumbling, Fancying and Discoveredd-ing, I’m fast getting inspirationed out*. Enough with the inspiration – I don’t need anymore! But I guess I’m an extreme case – most people don’t spend their lives scrolling through websites 1000 hours a day.

The latest, and inevitable chapter in the social curation story is that of brands and retailers using virtual ‘pinboards’ to drive sales. Continue reading

Buy it now: Autumn drops

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Sad but true: I have the heating on in July. Retailers are taking advantage by pumping out their early fall merchandise – jumpers, jackets and coats – to compensate for the lack of summer pick-up. You can’t blame them, winterwear makes more money than summer because knits cost thrice as much as tees. Ah well, here’s my early fall fantasy shopping list…

Some goodies from the AIPR AW12 press day back in March. My favourite discovery? Louis W, a capsule collection for A.P.C by in-house designer Louis Wong, consisting of perfect renditions of the bomber and biker jacket (alas, they’re in men’s sizes – typical). Due in October… Continue reading

Paris men’s fashion week photo diary

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

What could be more thrilling than bumping into both Catherine Baba and Ines de la Fressange (alas, not together) on the streets of Paris? Baba flitted into the Louboutin soiree for all of five seconds, while we witnessed Ines de la Fressange being papped in Place Vendome on her way to the Schiaparelli salon launch (nice Miu Miu trousers Ines)
