Vintage Festival 2011
I went to Vintage Festival yesterday and spent far too much time in the (free) Vintage Village snapping 1960s plan chests and dressing tables and not enough time in the main event. I have to say it was all excellently done. The Northern Soul music playing in the main hall set the tone beautifully while The Warehouse transported me straight back to the days of illegal warehouse raves in a haze of dry ice and nostalgia. Obsessed…
With Wallis Simpson at the moment. Oh to play dress-up with her couture and Cartier baubles. Here’s a great wee clip of Mr and Mrs Simpson…
The man totes that get my vote
However many tote bags I have in my life there’s always room for more. Generally, on the rare occasions I’m doing polished and professional, I use my Chanel Birkin-alike Cerf tote which is a good size, structured and has lots of lovely inner pockets. Continue reading
On the rise: celebrity lifestyle blogs
After reading this Lucian Freud article last week I re-read an amazingly educational interview with David Hockney in a 2009 issue of Paradis. One of Hockney’s most astute observations was that of the diminishing power of tradional mass media. Continue reading
Look book: Sandro AW11

Out of all the mid-priced French brands (Maje, Zadig & Voltaire, The Kooples et al), Sandro is the one doing it for me right now. Sunday Times Style on fashion bloggers
The Sunday Times Style feature from last weekend has been reproduced on its author Ellen Burney’s blog*, alongside the full interviews with some of her interviewees (including me). For those who asked, the scans of the piece are below (click to enlarge)… Continue reading
Book now: Vintage at Southbank
As I have no trouble admitting, I don’t do festivals. Omnipresent mud, stinky toilets, itchy hair, overpriced veggie burgers, endless queues – all for the price of a week in Ibiza? No thanks. One person I know returned from Glastonbury with piles and a faceful of cold sores. How delightful. But Wayne Hemingway’s Vintage Festival promises to be a different sort of festival altogether; it’s in London for a start and on concrete. Continue reading
