New Sofia Coppola film alert! Somewhere

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

What could be more exciting than the prospect of a new Sofia Coppola film? Um, the soundtrack to a new Sofia Coppola film? The new movie, Somewhere is due for release in December. The soundtrack promises The Strokes and Phoenix which is all I know so far but is more than good enough for me (Phoenix and Jesus and Mary Chain were my highlights of Lost in Translation).

Here’s the trailer…

Supermarket Sarah does it again

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Why do I love Supermarket Sarah so? Is it because it’s like a giant, lifesize collage? Is it Sarah’s DIY punk spirit (why the hell not make your living room into a shop?)? Is it the crazy-creative curators she teams up with? Wait, why am I overthinking things? I love it cos it’s wicked, duh!

The latest Supermarket Sarah is curated by textile designer Donna Wilson (above left). Alongside Sarah Bagner’s vintage wares (this bag is very Celine, no?) you can buy Donna’s knitted cloud, illustrated face plate, natty knitted fox scarf and much more!

It’s not fashionable but…

…I do love a cuban heel. Particularly when it’s an Acne all-over fuchsia cowboy shoe-boot, especially worn with a skinny anklebone-skimming indigo jean. Yee haw!

Fantasy hybrid: FitFlop meets brothel creeper

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

I have heard so much about the benefits of FitFlops that when I was offered a free trial, I couldn’t say no. I can’t get on with toe posts so I opted for a sandal style FitFlop that reminded me of those Reef Brazils in the 90s.

The shoes are certainly extremely comfortable. The problem is, in order to enjoy their workout benefits, you need to wear them for proper outside-the-house walking, not just shuffling from one room to another – they’re not slippers. However, therein lies the problem – they’re just so aesthetically displeasing, there’s no way I could be seen dead in them. Solution? I propose a fantasy hybrid. I don’t see why we can’t marry the technology of a FitFlop with the design of something cool like a brothel creeper. You have the chunkiness of the sole right there, just add a pointy upper, some snazzy detailing and you’re good to go. How about it Marcia?

Does fashion maketh woman?

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Ooh, hands up who loves an interactive debate? Me too! Here’s a corker for you, Intelligence Squared is hosting a bit of a ding-dong about the nature of fashion. Those fighting in favour (yay!) are fashion designer Britt Lintner, Paula Reed (style director, Grazia) and Madelaine Levy (editor-in-chief, Bon magazine). Those against it are psychotherapist Susie Orbach, design expert Stephen Bayley and artist Grayson Perry. Peter York will be chairing.

To attend it costs £25 (or half price for students). But you can also watch online for £2.99, and interact via Twitter, Facebook etc.
The date: 17th June, the time: 6-8.30pm, the place: Methodist Central Hall, Westminster.

Loewe and the gentlewoman effect

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

I love love love the fact that designers are really embracing ‘older women’ as fashion icons. I’m calling it the ‘gentlewoman‘ effect. Loewe creative director Stuart Vevers has created Loewe Leather Icons, an all-leather line of non-seasonal style staples for women and men. The womens collection includes a biker jacket, blazer, shift dress, trench coat, pencil skirt, blouson jacket, cropped jacket and skinny trousers. The capsule collection has been beautifully photographed by Daniel Jackson and features ‘models’ of all ages including 30+ Eleonora Bose and 40+ Tricia Ronane. Don’t they look HOT?

Also featured are designer/blogger Gala Gonzalez, model Louis Simonon and Another magazine’s Ben Cobb…

The collection is available from Harrods in July and I reckon will sell out in ooh, about ten seconds flat…

“Yes, we’ll offer XS, but how about XXXL? Some of the most powerful, influential, fantastic, sexy men I know come in XXXL sizes. They are larger than life!”
